I have never felt truly comfortable in strictly “masculine” spaces where there is an unwritten understanding that men inherently know their way around, know what everything is, and can fully function within that space. Taken in my father’s garage, I stare into the camera to create tension with the viewer and to convey my own unease within the space. Using generative fill AI, I enhanced the image with precariously stacked objects on the verge of falling off the bench, fearful that they would give away my presence in a space I was not supposed to be in.
